Wonderland - #1 of 6

Plot:  This series was released several months ago (if not more) but it never quite got the attention it deserved, so I’m going to review it for you now!  The story takes place after the events of Disney’s Alice in Wonderland.  The White Rabbit’s maid, Mary Ann is the central figure of this series.  For some reason or other, she was lost during the whole ordeal of Alice’s stay in Wonderland but now she’s back on track to the White Rabbit’s house.  We’re introduced to all the main players in Wonderland, such as the Queen of Hearts, Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum, The Cheshire Cat, and of course – The White Rabbit.

 

The rest of the story – without giving away exact plot details – is highly entertaining with a few plot twists and turns that should keep just about anyone interested.  Kovac’s writing is easy to read and Liew’s art has a great story-telling quality to it. But who I really recommend this series to, is any Alice in Wonderland fans that want to see what may have happened after Alice left; and the “destruction” that resulted from her stay there.

 

Art:  Liew’s art is fantastic and well imagined, with a visual style that seems that everything is in motion.  Panels hardly seem stagnant or lifeless and the end result is something that feels a bit dream-like; perfect for the world of Wonderland.

 

Writing:  As I mentioned earlier, Kovac does a great job of telling a story while keeping it simple at the same time.  He doesn’t get caught up in the “talking heads” of a non-action title, but instead builds up suspense and humor through his dialog and character interaction.

 

Overall:  8.5 out of 10
